The most important people in my life are my family and friends. They have always been there to support me no matter what and I am thankful for having them in my life. I went to Michigan State University for my undergraduate and graduate education and I am very proud to be a Spartan. A short list of things I enjoy in addition to spending time with family and friends include being active with recreational sports teams, volunteering in the community, catching live music, and going to music and cultural festivals.
For as long as I can remember I have enjoyed writing. I still have a blue ribbon that I won as a child for an essay I wrote in a 4-H competition at the county fair. The pleasure of writing is what drives me to do this blog. As I write, I am not only reflecting on my own personal journey, I am influenced by many life altering experiences that I have been exposed to and observed through acquaintances, close friends and having interacted with thousands of college students.
There are many aspects of my life that define me and shape my perspectives. These influences will manifest themselves through my writing. The dynamics of leadership and motivating people are some things that I get excited learning about and discussing. It is important to note that a large part of my perspective on this is shaped by my work experience. I have primarily worked in higher education at two large public universities. I have supervised and worked with a wide range of employees and have been influenced by all of them in some way.

I am a complete extrovert and love public speaking. I get energized when I can engage large and small groups of people through connecting with them, and being a catalyst for connecting them to each other. This has instilled in me a belief that cultivating meaning relationships with people is where understanding, compassion and empathy can bloom.
